The mission of the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT) is to help America prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from acts of domestic and international terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, and high-consequence events through teaching, training, technical assistance, and research.

Management Structure
The NCBRT is led by Col. Tom Tucker, Director, and is structured into three divisions: Administration and Support; Research and Development; and Operations and Plans. There are ten sections that fall within the three divisions: Business; IT and eLearning; Strategic Planning and Quality; Project Development; Instructor Development; Technical Communications; Research, Analysis, and Marketing; Training Programs; Public Affairs; and Materiel.

NCBRT history
The NCBRT at LSU began in 1998 as the Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education (ACE) through a small subcontract with the Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP). The original charge was to develop a single course for law enforcement and emergency response personnel.
Over the years, ACE expanded into the area of bioterrorism through partnerships with the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and ODP. The NCBRT was born through these partnerships and became formally recognized through Louisiana’s Board of Supervisors in 2002. The NCBRT also collaborated with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide emergency response courses for public health workers and clinicians.
NCBRT has continued to evolve and expand by joining forces with other national partners, universities, and consortia to advance our mission. The NCBRT gathers world-renowned teams of instructors and subject-matter experts who assist in providing teaching, training, technical assistance, and research to public and private entities, emergency response personnel, and government agencies. With this history of collaboration, the NCBRT brings together national experts who contribute to curricula and course development, exercise development and delivery, and research.

NCBRT national involvement
The NCRBT is involved on a national scale in research, curricula development, training, and other projects within the areas of WMD, mass casualty incidents, and counter-terrorism. As a founding member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC), a NCBRT is one of five partners who identifies, develops, tests, and delivers training to state and local emergency responders.
